history

Ten years ago I had the good sense to get married to the love of my life. Love you, honey!

It seems like this is the year of weddings (we have six, um, no, seven to attend)! I hope for each and every one of these newlyweds the same joy, courage, strength and hope that I have received from my marriage. It’s not always easy, but nothing worth doing ever is.

I’ve taken on the planning of a surprise trip to celebrate our anniversary (the location is a surprise, the trip itself isn’t), and so far I’ve managed to keep it secret. :) Some have asked, but I haven’t cracked. Even my own daughters tried to get it out of me, but I staunchly refused to answer.

Suffice it to say, it’s not camping. That’s enough information. Ok, move along, nothing to see here.

reads, books & laughs

I stole my wife’s library book and read it on the subway today. It’s a book by Lynne Truss, “Eats, Shoots & Leaves”. So funny. Of course I would think so, seeing as I joined the “I judge you when you use poor grammar” group on facebook without any hesitation. Truss’s book is about punctutaion, and its history and misuse. Recommended if you’re into slightly dry English humour, and things like punctuation.

As an Asian person born in Canada, I always shake my head when I read restaurant menus or grocery item descriptions, because invariably there will be a typo or grammatical construction so horrifying that it almost makes me ashamed to be Asian. Almost. In rare cases, these non-sensical blunders can also be a selling point, as demonstrated by our recent purchase of a package of rice noodles bearing the slogan, “The new type noodle: Thick * Slick * Bright Taste”. The description reads, “Each noodles is a stylish masterpiece. It is for people who want excitement in their noodles. Enjoy nice time by specially fine tastes.” Wow. We had to buy it for the packaging alone.

just like auntie

The other day I caught T doing something odd at the bathroom sink. She had a cup of water, and after drinking some, proceeded to pour the rest onto her thumb.

“What are you doing, honey?”

“I’m pouring it on my thumb!”

“Why are you doing that?”

“Because I want a green thumb!”

LOL

nokia + mac = happy me

Well, this totally slipped under the radar last week, but it seems that Nokia has released a Mac version of their phone software. Very nice. Now all I need is a good way to get a regular 1/8″ minijack output for the phone, and I’m on my way to phone / mp3 player integration. Sweet!

Edit 6:33PM: Well, I would be happy, but I don’t have an N series phone, so this software is no good for me… :(

tetris makes a comeback

J has picked up Tetris as her latest thing. She plays it on the grandparents’ GameBoy, and I downloaded Quinn for her to play at home. She has a limit of 30 minutes, which I think is fair… considering she’s only 4.5, I don’t want to create a game addict…

When I told her we had a version of Tetris she could play on the computer, I mentioned that we had to figure out what the controls were, because they would be different from the GameBoy. Her response was something along the lines of, “Oh, can we make the number keys control the directions, and another key to make it spin?” I was a little surprised. “Uh, ok, sure, we can customize it to whatever you like…” :O]
