Me: What are you doing? Are you done brushing teeth?
the Linguist: No, Daddy!
[sound of water running]
Me: What are you up to?
[I go in to the bathroom to find the water running, the soap dispenser in the sink, and the Linguist with toothbrush and toothpaste in hand]
the Linguist: Oh, well, daddy, I got my sleeve wet, and when I tried to dry it off I knocked the soap thing into the sink, and then my toothbrush touched it, and it got toothpaste on it, so I used my toothbrush to try and get it off!
Me: Oh. Why are both your sleeves wet?
the Linguist: Well, Daddy, I tried to dry it but it didn’t work, so I thought if I get them both wet, then you wouldn’t notice.
