Microsoft Update Brings Thousands of PCs to Standstill
“Microsoft installed a resource hungry search application on thousands of PCs Wednesday, bringing them to a standstill, according to The Register on Thursday. It happened even though administrators had configured their systems not to use the search tool.”
Yay, just in time for Leopard! Thanks, Microsoft!

What happens when you stay awake for 11 days straight
“What would happen if you stay awake, say, oh for 11 days straight? Would you suffer brain damage or even die? Here’s the story of a high school stunt that turned into a real scientific research into sleep deprivation…”
Some of his behaviours sound familiar, having experienced a form of sleep deprivation called ‘a newborn baby’. But even a newborn doesn’t cause this sever level of sleep deprivation (I mean, they DO sleep eventually… right?)

NY Times - Apple Offers New Goodies in Leopard System
Ah, good ol’ David Pogue. He hits on some very good points, including the tricky nature of this release, which is mostly about OS features and less about nuts and bolts. OS X is pretty mature and stable, so what do you do? It’s a fit and polish release, and notably, it’s not just for newer machines. Pogue says that because of it’s relatively light system requirements, Apple says Leopard will run on 3 year old Macs, or even the high end machines of 6 years ago! Try THAT with Vista!
